Brace yourself with the Knox warrior BC9

British impact protection specialists Knox have introduced a fully-CE-approved safety harness that has a specially designed back plate to accommodate popular brands of neck brace. Developed with the help of Relentless Suzuki MX rider Jamie Law, the Knox Warrior BC9 combines ultra light weight with class-leading protection and ease of use.

Weighing in at just 1.1kg, the chest, shoulder and back protector elements of the Warrior incorporate naturally strong hexagonal honeycomb internals that are light but capable of absorbing massive amounts of energy from an impact, working in a similar way to the crumple zone on a car. All protectors are independently tested and approved to the current European standards (EN 1621) for complete confidence in their protective capabilities. The back plate is lined with Spacer fabric that reduces heat build-up and works with pinhole vents to improve air circulation, keeping the wearer cool when the racing heats up.

Both Leatt (also BMW and KTM) and Alpinestars neck braces fit comfortably with the Knox Warrior BC9, sitting in specially shaped sections front and rear. Elastic and Velcro straps around the waist and over the shoulders secure the Warrior quickly and easily. Available in two sizes, (small and large), the Knox Warrior BC9 retails for £149.99 including VAT. Planet-Knox – dedicated to protection. Call 01900 825825 or visit http://www.planet-knox.com/

FORMA and function

Arrow SX Dry waterproof race boot

FORMA’s Arrow SX Dry race boots offer riders all of the benefits of a top-flight Italian race boot with the functionality of a reliable waterproof linier and the reassurance of the CE-mark.
Designed and developed in Italy, FORMA are the boots of choice for Max Neukirchner in World Superbikes and James Ellison in BSB. Manufactured exclusively in Europe, FORMA is one of only a handful of manufacturers committed to producing boots that are CE-certified to the EN13634 standard for motorcycle boots.

The Arrow SX boot has a leather upper reinforced by replaceable plastic protection for the calf and malleolus (the bony prominence on each side of the ankle) and with an ankle support system too. There is a double protective Velcro and zip closure to ensure a watertight fit and the replaceable toe sliders are anti-spark magnesium.

Waterproofing is assured thanks to a Drytex® tubular lining, which creates an internal waterproof ‘sock’ rather than attaching the liner to the sole, providing reliable long-lasting water resistance. The sole, meanwhile, has a TPU Dual Flex and anti-shock EVA midsole that protects the instep but allows flexibility for the ball of the foot for comfortable walking. Forma Arrow SX Dry boots are produced in sizes 7-13 in a choice of black or white retailing for £149.95. Planet Knox T. 01900 825825 – W. www.planet.knox.com/formabootsuk

Downhill MTB crash testing

Our sponsored riders really go the distance when it comes to product testing. Check out this video footage of downhill mountain biker Stu "Jenko" Jenkinson from round two of the Maxxis cup at Vigo in Spain. In addition to the knee guards Stu also wears a Knox safety shirt - no wonder he's able to carry on after two HUGE crashes withing 30 seconds. Filmed by John Parkin from 3Focus fame for Dirt magazine.

Dan Couzens bounces back with Knox

Dan Couzens races in the UK Mini Twins series. This is his story.

"I am sending this email to say thank you very much for the top quality back and chest protector you supplied me with. Unfortunately I've had to use them already! I was hit by another rider after the race had been stopped, I had slowed to about 20mph for the red flags due to an incident on the start line and another rider a few bikes back hadn't spotted the reds and hit me directly from behind doing at least 80-90mph. As you can imagine the resulting impact was a large one, the other rider knocked themselves unconscious on my back and i have broken my radius, ulnar and scaphoid in my left arm and hand. Amazingly I barely have a sore neck and my back is absolutely fine!! I strongly feel this is due to the quality of your product and have been doing my best to promote it to everyone i know, it has been tried and tested now in a large accident and proven its worth. I feel compelled to send you this since i feel very lucky and could be in a far worse condition were it not for your equipment and for that i am very grateful! Yours sincerely, Danny Couzens #4 Minitwin"

Forma boot up a gear on Phillip Island

Max Neukirchner started the 2009 WSBK season with a second and sixth place on his new GSX-R Suzuki and his
new F1 Forma boots. In race one at Phillip Island Max made a good start and managed to stay with the front group, crossing the line in second after a hard fought race. At the start of race two Neukirchner made contact with another rider, but managed to fight his way through the pack to finish in sixth position. Max is now second in Superbike championship standing.

Two other riders are competing at world level in Forma boots this year. After just one year in world Supersport, David Salom moves up to world Superbike with Team
Pedercini Kawasaki. In Phillip Island David ended race one in twenty first place, and race two in twenty fifth - a good experience for the young Spanish rider in a hugely competitive championship. In Supersport French rider Matthieu Lagrive, four times Endurance world champion, began the season with his new HANNspree Honda Althea team on a CBR 600 RR. Following a poor start he reached the eleventh
position, making some good points for his championship campaign.

New look and new message from Knox

Knox, the specialist brand dedicated to the design and manufacture of impact protection has unveiled a new brand identity logo. Subtly different the new logo is softer, richer and more dynamic. This is the first phase of a major shift in strategy for the British company, which continues to innovate truly world leading protection for high risk sports.

“Since the company was founded back in 1981 we have improved the design and quality of our products every year to ensure we lead the market in comfort, fit and protection” explains MD Geoff Travell. “However we realise that the time had come to revitalise our image and the new logo perfectly represents our strategic brand positioning and reflects our core values of trust and integrity.”

When the CE-standard for motorcycle protection became law in 1995 Knox was almost unique as a manufacturer of approved body armour, but with increasing numbers of manufacturers jumping onto the bandwagon, customers are being bombarded with confusing information and dubious claims from many sources.
“We want people to appreciate the added value of Knox” adds Travell. “Not only are our products designed by people who understand the applications and actively participate in the activities for which they’re intended, our products are independently tested and approved to current standards. When it comes to the crunch, Knox products give you proven and trusted protection. We want our customers to know that we are dedicated to protection”
