Knox survives Cockermouth floods

Planet-Knox, the UK's leading manufacturer of impact protection for extreme sports, has escaped the worst of the devastation caused by recent flooding in Cumbria. Although their factory is situated in central Cockermouth, which experienced some of the worst flooding for 1000 years, only a few inches of water entered the building. However, the area in which the factory stands has been cut off for several days, so today has been the first opportunity that management and staff could get in to assess the situation.

"Our biggest problem has been the lack of electrical supply up to now, as without power all our communications have been down" explains managing director Geoff Travell. "However we are now back up-and-running and we will certainly be at the NEC Bike Show later this week to launch our 2010 collection."

Anyone wishing to contact Knox is asked to be patient while staff deal with the backlog of calls and emails inbetween mopping up.

Cold Killers has socks appeal

Prolonged exposure of the extremities to the cold and damp is not only uncomfortable, but can result in painful conditions such as frostnip, chilblains and in extreme cases, frostbite. Therefore it is essential to make sure those parts of the anatomy farthest away from the body’s ‘core’ are kept properly insulated and dry during winter riding.
Cold Killers Hot Socks are designed to keep feet warm and dry during even the most miserable winter rides. Their ‘Softshell’ fabric construction features a three-ply laminate, with a tough and tightly woven stretch fabric on the outside; a laminated windproof membrane and a cosy 3-D fleece liner.
This three-layer system not only prevents wind chill, but also allows warm air to circulate round the foot easily, thereby dramatically reducing the overheat/chill-down cycle associated with conventional layering. Softshell fabric is water repellent too, and fully breathable, helping to prevent water ingress and the build-up of moisture in the rider’s boots.
Cold Killers Hot Socks are extremely thin and flexible, eliminating the need for extra layering and ensuring there are no ‘tight spots’ to restrict circulation. They also feature flat seems throughout and stretch panels at the ankle for an easy and comfortable fit. They are machine washable too, so are easy to keep fresh.
Cold Killers Hot Socks area available in sizes S-XXL (5-12 UK / 38-46 EU), at an RRP of £15.99. For further information call Planet Knox on 01900 825825 or visit http://www.coldkillers.co.uk/. See the complete Cold Killers Softshell collection on the Planet-Knox stand at the NEC Bike show (27 Nov – 6 Dec in Birmingham) http://www.motorcycleshow.co.uk/

Horse tales

As the UK's leading supplier of impact protection for two-wheelers, Knox has been chosen to supply product in other markets in which safety awareness is growing, particularly winter sports and equestrian.
Kan Teq, who use Knox technology in their revolutionary body protector for horse riders, have recently worked with the University of Ulster Sports Academy on a pioneering study, which is believed to be the first of it’s kind. The aim was to ascertain just how much more comfortable and protective, also how much performance improves, when a rider is wearing a Kan body protector, compared to other equestrian body protectors. Twenty volunteers were recruited to carry out the test, which involved completing a questionnaire before and after exercising and jumping their own horses. The study is ongoing and the results should be published before Christmas, so check back for an update.
One of the many riders who swears by her KAN protector s Hayley J (pictured); she had a horrible fall last year and believes the KAN took the impact and saved her back from injury. This gorgeous photo was taken by Steve Jetley.
